Behind the scenes heros
Who decides whether that red still looks right under the client's fluorescent lights?
Who catches the typo before it gets printed forty feet wide?
Who takes the gorgeous AI concept the client fell in love with and actually makes it printable?
Not sales. Not the machines. Not the designer, and not the AI that generated the file.
There's a team sitting quietly between all of them whose entire job is knowing the questions nobody else thought to ask, and answering them before they turn into expensive mistakes. It's called prepress, and it's one of the least visible parts of what we do.
Here's the thing about doing it well: when prepress does its job right, you never know they were there. The colour is just correct. The sign is just sharp from across the parking lot. Every piece just fits. The absence of problems is the whole product, which is exactly why it's so easy to overlook and so painful to skip.
Every job in our building passes through these hands before it ever reaches a machine. That's not a bottleneck. That's the insurance policy.
What's the part of your work that's invisible when it's done right, and impossible to ignore when it's done wrong?
